I believe that. When my husband went on a trip for a few days our dog started howling during the day and always wanted to be near me. I gave him extra love and attention and he was fine. But when hubby came back our dog was so happy to see him.

The question then, what cause dogs depression?
I've heard that people even give their dogs the same anti-depressants we humans use. That, I wouldn't do. But love and nurturaing heals all of us.

The disruptions or major changes may lead to their mood problems.
If something can feel affection, it can certainly feel the darker feelings. And puppies are so sensitive.

Hi Tanza, Many thanks for stopping by Pen and Paper.
ReplyDeleteIt's surprising how many of these things our furry friends share with us. Our friends cat has IBS and our dog suffered with separation anxiety whenever she was away from us so it's no surprise dogs get depressed.

How to overcome your depressed dogs?
All animals can get depressions. My son's cat got one because she couldn't go out anymore, and stopped eating. She was not made for a flat. so she arrived here where she has a garden and now she is happy and 19 years old !

A really good - and important - post, Tanza!
ReplyDeleteI are always believed animals are just as prone to depression as we humans.
An animal should be treated as well as we would a child, should be nurtured and loved. They have feelings too.
Thank you for this. I'm sure it will make a lot of people think!😊😊
Have a great day!

That's sad that dogs can get depressed, but I'll have to remember that if I ever get a dog. They're the best companions, and I've been wanting a Dachshund lately.
